HMC405 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the signal traces short and away from the power planes. Use a common mode choke or a ferrite bead to filter the power supply lines.
  • The HMC405 requires a single +5V power supply. Ensure the power supply is well-regulated and decoupled with 0.1uF and 10uF capacitors. The bias voltage (Vbias) should be set to 2.5V using a voltage divider or a voltage reference.
  • The maximum input power that the HMC405 can handle is +10dBm. Exceeding this limit may cause damage to the device. Use an attenuator or a limiter to ensure the input power is within the recommended range.
  • The HMC405 has a wideband response, but it can be optimized for a specific frequency band by adjusting the external matching network. Use a network analyzer to optimize the matching network for the desired frequency band.
  • The recommended operating temperature range for the HMC405 is -40°C to +85°C. Operating the device outside this range may affect its performance and reliability.
