  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the PLL loop filter components close to the device and use a star-ground configuration to minimize noise.
  • The charge pump current (I_CP) should be set based on the phase detector frequency (f_PD) and the loop bandwidth (LBW). A good starting point is I_CP = 2.5mA for f_PD = 10MHz and LBW = 100kHz. Adjust I_CP to achieve the desired phase noise performance.
  • The maximum frequency deviation is dependent on the reference frequency and the modulus value. For a 10MHz reference frequency, the maximum frequency deviation is approximately ±20MHz for a modulus value of 4096.
