BFCN-3115+ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Mini-Circuits recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane on the bottom layer, and a via-stitched ground plane on the top layer. The amplifier should be placed near the edge of the board, with the input and output ports facing away from the board edge. A low-inductance path to ground is essential for the amplifier's decoupling capacitors.
  • The BFCN-3115+ requires a single +12V to +15V power supply. A 1kΩ to 2kΩ resistor should be used to bias the amplifier, and a 10uF to 22uF decoupling capacitor should be placed close to the amplifier's power pin. The bias voltage should be filtered to prevent noise from affecting the amplifier's performance.
  • The BFCN-3115+ can handle up to +10dBm of input power without damage. However, the amplifier's performance may degrade if the input power exceeds +5dBm. It is recommended to use an attenuator or a limiter to prevent excessive input power.
  • The BFCN-3115+ has a 50Ω input and output impedance. To ensure maximum power transfer, the input and output ports should be matched to 50Ω using a π-network or a T-network of resistors and capacitors. The matching network should be designed to operate over the frequency range of interest.
  • The BFCN-3115+ is designed to operate over a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. However, the amplifier's performance may degrade at extreme temperatures. It is recommended to operate the amplifier within a temperature range of 0°C to +70°C for optimal performance.
