Superior Electric recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and a separate layer for the high-frequency signals. Additionally, keep the input and output traces as short as possible and avoid crossing them over each other.
The BP21R has a thermal pad on the bottom of the package. Ensure good thermal contact with a heat sink or a metal core PCB. Apply a thin layer of thermal interface material (TIM) to the thermal pad before attaching the heat sink. Keep the ambient temperature below 40°C for optimal performance.
The BP21R can withstand voltage transients up to 1.5 times the maximum rated input voltage for a duration of 100ms. However, it's recommended to use a voltage transient suppressor or a TVS diode to protect the device from voltage spikes.
The BP21R is designed for operation up to 10,000 feet (3,048 meters) above sea level. For higher altitudes, derate the device's power rating according to the manufacturer's guidelines or consult with Superior Electric's application engineers.
First, verify the input voltage and current are within the specified range. Check for proper PCB layout, thermal management, and decoupling.
