BP5220A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the input and output traces short and away from noise sources. Use a common mode choke or ferrite bead to filter the input voltage.
  • Monitor the input voltage, output current, and junction temperature to ensure they are within the specified limits. Use a thermal management system, such as a heat sink, to keep the junction temperature below 125°C.
  • A 10uF to 22uF X7R or X5R ceramic capacitor is recommended for the input filter. The capacitor should be placed as close to the VIN pin as possible and have a low ESR to minimize voltage ripple.
  • Use a shielded inductor, keep the switching node (SW) away from sensitive circuits, and add a common mode choke or ferrite bead to the input. Ensure good PCB layout practices, such as separating analog and digital grounds.
  • The maximum output capacitance is 100uF. Exceeding this value may cause instability or oscillations. Use a low-ESR capacitor, such as a ceramic or polymer capacitor, to minimize voltage ripple.
