XP Power recommends a PCB layout with a solid ground plane and a thermal pad connected to a heat sink or a metal plate to dissipate heat. A minimum of 1 oz copper thickness is recommended for the PCB. XP Power recommends using low-ESR capacitors with a voltage rating of at least 1.5 times the input voltage. For the input, a 10 μF to 22 μF ceramic capacitor is recommended, while for the output, a 10 μF to 47 μF ceramic capacitor is recommended. The capacitors should be placed as close to the module as possible to minimize noise and ripple.
XP Power recommends following the troubleshooting guide in the datasheet, which includes checking the input voltage, output voltage, and current levels. Additionally, engineers can use an oscilloscope to monitor the voltage and current waveforms to identify any anomalies. In case of overvoltage, undervoltage, or overcurrent protection, the module will latch off and require a power cycle to reset.
The typical efficiency of the IHL0212D1509 is around 92% to 95% depending on the input voltage and output load. The power loss can be estimated using the efficiency curve provided in the datasheet. For example, at 12 Vin and 1.5 Vout, the power loss is around 1.5 W to 2 W.
