ISL8560IRZ - Renesas Electronics

Description: The ISL8560 is a step down DC/DC power switching regulator which accepts 9.0V to 60V input and provides a 2A output current. The output voltage can be set in the range between 1.21V and 55V by means of an external divider. The device uses an internal power DMOS transistor with a typical rDS(ON) of 0.19Ω to obtain very high efficiency and high switching speed. A switching frequency in the range of 100kHz to 600kHz can be realized (the maximum power dissipation of the various packages must be observed). Notab

ISL8560IRZ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Renesas provides a recommended PCB layout guide in the ISL8560IRZ evaluation board user manual, which includes guidelines for component placement, routing, and thermal management to ensure optimal performance and minimize noise.
  • To ensure stability, it's essential to follow the recommended component values and PCB layout guidelines. Additionally, the output voltage can be stabilized by adding a capacitor (e.g., 10nF to 100nF) in parallel with the output resistor, and by using a low-ESR output capacitor (e.g., ceramic or polymer).
  • Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 6V, it's recommended to limit the input voltage to 5.5V to ensure reliable operation and prevent damage to the device.
  • The output voltage ripple and noise can be calculated using the equations provided in the datasheet, taking into account the input voltage, output current, and component values. Additionally, simulation tools like SPICE or PSpice can be used to model the circuit and estimate the output voltage ripple and noise.
  • The thermal derating of the ISL8560IRZ is specified in the datasheet. As the ambient temperature increases, the maximum output current must be derated to prevent overheating. The derating curve can be used to determine the maximum output current at a given temperature.
