ISP1203A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

XP Power recommends a PCB layout with a large copper area connected to the tab of the ISP1203A to dissipate heat effectively. A minimum of 1 square inch of copper area is recommended, with multiple vias to connect to an internal copper plane or a heat sink.
To ensure reliable start-up, XP Power recommends a soft-start circuit to limit the inrush current during power-on. A minimum of 10ms soft-start time is recommended to prevent the ISP1203A from shutting down due to excessive inrush current.
The maximum allowed capacitance on the output of the ISP1203A is 220uF. Exceeding this value may cause the ISP1203A to oscillate or become unstable.
The ISP1203A is rated for operation up to 85°C ambient temperature. However, derating is required for temperatures above 70°C. Consult the datasheet for derating curves and ensure proper heat sinking to maintain reliable operation.
XP Power recommends checking the input voltage, output voltage, and output current to ensure they are within the specified ranges. Also, check for proper heat sinking, correct PCB layout, and ensure that the ISP1203A is not subjected to excessive voltage or current stress.
