REM2-1212S Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • RECOM recommends a PCB layout with a large copper area connected to the module's thermal pad, and a minimum of 2oz copper thickness. A thermal via array under the module can also improve heat dissipation.
  • To ensure reliable start-up, RECOM recommends a soft-start circuit or a ramp-up of the input voltage to prevent inrush currents. Additionally, a sufficient input capacitance and a low-ESR output capacitor can help stabilize the output voltage.
  • The maximum allowed output capacitance is 220uF. Exceeding this value may cause instability or oscillations in the converter. RECOM recommends using a low-ESR capacitor with a value between 10uF to 100uF for optimal performance.
  • While the REM2-1212S is rated for operation up to 80°C, RECOM recommends derating the output power at higher temperatures to ensure reliable operation. A temperature derating curve is available in the datasheet or upon request from RECOM.
  • RECOM recommends using a TVS diode or a transient voltage suppressor at the input to protect the converter from voltage transients. A fuse or a current limiter can also be used to prevent damage from input overvoltage or overcurrent conditions.
