A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and thermal vias is recommended. Keep the thermal pad connected to the ground plane and ensure good thermal conduction to the surrounding components.
Use a high-quality output capacitor with low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and ensure the output capacitor is placed close to the IC. Also, ensure the input capacitor is properly decoupled and the input voltage is within the recommended range.
Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 18V, it's recommended to limit the input voltage to 15V to ensure reliable operation and prevent damage to the IC.
The output voltage ripple can be calculated using the formula: ΔVout = (Iout * ESR) / (f * Cout), where Iout is the output current, ESR is the equivalent series resistance of the output capacitor, f is the switching frequency, and Cout is the output capacitance.
A 10uF to 22uF X5R or X7R ceramic capacitor is recommended for the input capacitor. The capacitor should be placed close to the IC and have a low ESR to ensure stable operation.
