SMA3117-TL-H Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • A thermal pad on the bottom of the package should be connected to a large copper area on the PCB to dissipate heat. A minimum of 2oz copper thickness is recommended. Additionally, vias should be placed under the thermal pad to connect to the copper area.
  • The SMA3117-TL-H requires a stable input voltage (VIN) between 2.7V and 5.5V. Ensure the input capacitor (CIN) is placed close to the VIN pin and has a low ESR. A 1uF ceramic capacitor is recommended. Also, ensure the output capacitor (COUT) is placed close to the VOUT pin and has a low ESR.
  • The SMA3117-TL-H can deliver up to 1.5A of output current. However, the maximum output current is dependent on the input voltage, output voltage, and ambient temperature. Refer to the datasheet for specific current limits based on these conditions.
  • The SMA3117-TL-H has built-in overvoltage protection (OVP) and undervoltage lockout (UVLO) features. However, additional protection can be achieved by adding external components such as a voltage supervisor or a reset IC to monitor the input voltage and reset the system if it falls outside the recommended range.
  • A 1uF to 10uF ceramic capacitor (X5R or X7R dielectric) is recommended for the input capacitor (CIN). The capacitor should be placed close to the VIN pin and have a low ESR to minimize voltage ripple and ensure stable operation.
