STMicroelectronics provides a recommended PCB layout in their application note AN4392, which includes guidelines for thermal pad connection, copper pouring, and via placement to ensure optimal thermal performance.
The input capacitor selection depends on the input voltage, ripple current, and ESR requirements. A general guideline is to choose a capacitor with a voltage rating of at least 1.5 times the maximum input voltage, and an ESR of less than 1 ohm. STMicroelectronics recommends using a ceramic capacitor with an X7R or X5R dielectric.
The maximum allowed voltage on the enable pin (EN) is 6V, as specified in the datasheet. Exceeding this voltage may damage the device.
To ensure proper power-up and power-down, follow the recommended power-up sequence: 1) Apply input voltage (VIN), 2) Apply enable signal (EN), and 3) Apply output load. For power-down, reverse the sequence. Additionally, ensure the input voltage is stable and within the recommended range before applying the enable signal.
The recommended output capacitor value depends on the output voltage and load requirements. A general guideline is to use a capacitor with a value between 10uF to 47uF, and an ESR of less than 1 ohm. STMicroelectronics recommends using a ceramic capacitor with an X7R or X5R dielectric.
