XP Power recommends a PCB layout with a large copper area connected to the tab of the device to dissipate heat effectively. A minimum of 1 square inch of copper is recommended, and the layout should be designed to minimize thermal resistance.
To ensure reliable start-up, XP Power recommends a soft-start circuit or a ramp-up of the input voltage to prevent high inrush currents. Additionally, the input voltage should be stabilized before applying it to the converter.
The maximum capacitance on the output of the TR05S15 is 47μF. Exceeding this value may cause instability or oscillation in the converter. It's recommended to use a capacitance value that is as close to the recommended value as possible.
The TR05S15 is rated for operation up to 80°C ambient temperature. However, derating of the output power may be necessary for temperatures above 60°C. Consult the datasheet for derating curves and ensure proper thermal management in high-temperature applications.
