580M-01ILFT - Renesas Electronics

Description: The 580-01 is a clock multiplexer (mux) designed to switch between two clock sources with no glitches or short pulses. The operation of the mux is controlled by an input pin but the part can also be configured to switch automatically if one of the input clocks stops. The part also provides clock detection by reporting when an input clock has stopped. For a clock mux with zero delay and smooth switching, see either the 581-01 or the 581-02.

580M-01ILFT Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Renesas provides a reference design guide for the 580M-01ILFT, which includes recommendations for PCB layout, thermal management, and heat sink design. It's essential to follow these guidelines to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and thermal dissipation.
  • The 580M-01ILFT has built-in overcurrent protection and fault detection features. However, to implement these features, you need to connect the OCP (Overcurrent Protection) pin to a suitable resistor and capacitor network, and monitor the FLT (Fault) pin for fault detection. Renesas provides application notes and design guides to help with the implementation.
  • The input capacitor selection and placement are critical for the 580M-01ILFT's performance and stability. Renesas recommends using a low-ESR capacitor with a value between 4.7uF to 10uF, placed as close as possible to the VIN pin. The capacitor should be rated for the maximum input voltage and have a suitable temperature rating.
  • To ensure EMC and reduce EMI emissions, follow Renesas' guidelines for PCB layout, component selection, and shielding. Use a metal shield or a shielded inductor, and ensure that the layout is symmetrical and balanced. Additionally, use EMI filters and common-mode chokes as needed.
  • The recommended startup sequence involves applying the input voltage (VIN) before the enable signal (EN). The power-on reset timing is critical, and Renesas recommends a minimum of 10ms delay between the input voltage application and the enable signal. This ensures proper startup and prevents unwanted oscillations.
