A 2-layer or 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and thermal vias under the IC is recommended. This helps to dissipate heat efficiently and reduce thermal resistance.
Ensure that the input voltage rises monotonically during start-up, and the output voltage is properly sequenced during shutdown. Also, add a soft-start capacitor to limit the inrush current.
The maximum allowed capacitance is dependent on the output voltage and current. As a general rule, keep the capacitance below 100uF to avoid stability issues.
Choose an inductor with a high saturation current rating, low DC resistance, and a core material suitable for high-frequency operation. Also, consider the inductor's physical size, cost, and temperature rating.
