A thermal pad is recommended under the IC to improve heat dissipation. A 2-layer PCB with a solid ground plane on the bottom layer and a small thermal relief pattern around the thermal pad is recommended.
To ensure stable output voltage regulation, it is recommended to use a 10uF or larger output capacitor with a low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and to minimize the distance between the output capacitor and the IC.
Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 18V, it is recommended to limit the input voltage to 15V or less to ensure reliable operation and to prevent damage to the IC.
While ceramic capacitors can be used, it is recommended to use an electrolytic capacitor or a film capacitor for the input capacitor (CIN) due to their lower ESR and higher ripple current capability.
The output voltage accuracy can be calculated by considering the tolerance of the internal voltage reference, the resistor tolerance, and the output voltage divider resistors. A detailed calculation is provided in the application note.
