Bivar recommends a thermal pad on the bottom of the device, connected to a large copper area on the PCB to dissipate heat. A minimum of 2 oz copper thickness is recommended, and the thermal pad should be connected to a ground plane to reduce thermal resistance.
To ensure reliable operation in high-vibration environments, Bivar recommends securing the device using a screw or adhesive, and using a PCB with a thickness of at least 0.062 inches to reduce flexure. Additionally, the device should be mounted away from vibration sources and secured to a rigid structure.
The maximum allowable voltage drop across the MPC3BWD is 2.5V. Exceeding this voltage drop may result in reduced performance, increased power consumption, or even device failure.
While the MPC3BWD is rated for operation up to 85°C, Bivar recommends derating the device's power dissipation by 50% when operating above 70°C to ensure reliable operation. Additionally, the device should be mounted on a heat sink or thermal management system to reduce junction temperature.
