A thermal pad is recommended to be connected to a large copper area on the PCB to dissipate heat efficiently. A minimum of 2oz copper thickness is recommended for optimal thermal performance.
The PT8A2648WEX has an internal overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit that turns off the output when the input voltage exceeds 12V. However, it is still recommended to add an external TVS diode or a voltage clamp to protect the device from voltage spikes or transients.
A low-ESR ceramic capacitor with a value of 10uF to 22uF is recommended for input decoupling. The capacitor should be placed as close to the VIN pin as possible to minimize noise and ripple.
The output voltage can be adjusted by connecting a resistor divider network between the FB pin and the output voltage. The resistor values can be calculated using the formula provided in the datasheet.
The PT8A2648WEX is rated for operation up to 85°C ambient temperature. However, it is recommended to derate the output current and ensure good airflow to maintain a junction temperature below 125°C for reliable operation.
