SB5200 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • A thermal pad on the bottom of the package should be connected to a large copper area on the PCB to dissipate heat efficiently. A minimum of 2oz copper thickness is recommended.
  • Implement a thermal management system, such as a heat sink or fan, to keep the junction temperature below 150°C. Also, ensure good airflow and avoid thermal hotspots on the PCB.
  • Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 30V, it's recommended to limit the input voltage to 25V to ensure reliable operation and prevent damage to the device.
  • Implement TVS (transient voltage suppression) diodes or varistors on the input lines to protect against voltage spikes and surges. Also, use a fuse or PTC (positive temperature coefficient) thermistor to prevent overcurrent conditions.
  • A 10uF to 22uF X7R or X5R ceramic capacitor is recommended for input decoupling. The capacitor should be placed as close as possible to the input pins and have a low ESL (equivalent series inductance) to minimize noise and ripple.
