30723 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Vicor recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and thermal vias to dissipate heat. A thermal interface material (TIM) should be used between the module and the heat sink. A heat sink with a thermal resistance of 1°C/W or lower is recommended.
  • To ensure reliable start-up and shutdown, Vicor recommends a soft-start circuit to limit inrush current, and a shutdown circuit to discharge the output capacitors. The input voltage should be ramped up and down slowly to prevent voltage spikes.
  • The 30723 is designed to operate within a specific input voltage range. Operating outside this range may affect efficiency, output voltage regulation, and reliability. Vicor recommends using a voltage regulator or a voltage stabilizer to maintain a stable input voltage.
  • To mitigate EMI and EMC issues, Vicor recommends using a shielded enclosure, keeping the input and output cables separate, and using EMI filters or common-mode chokes on the input and output lines. Additionally, the 30723 should be placed at least 10mm away from other components to reduce electromagnetic coupling.
  • The 30723 has a maximum operating temperature of 100°C. Vicor recommends derating the output power by 1% per degree Celsius above 50°C to ensure reliable operation. The module should be operated within the recommended temperature range to prevent thermal runaway and ensure long-term reliability.
