  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the PLL loop filter components close to the device and use a low-ESR capacitor for the VCC pin. Avoid routing digital signals near the PLL loop filter components.
  • Ensure a clean power-up sequence by applying VCC before applying a clock signal. Initialize the device by writing to the control registers in the correct sequence, as specified in the datasheet. Use the reset pin to reset the device if necessary.
  • The maximum frequency deviation depends on the PLL loop bandwidth and the modulation frequency. The ADF41020BCPZ can achieve frequency deviations up to ±10 MHz with a modulation frequency of up to 100 kHz.
