BMP180 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • The recommended power-on sequence is to first apply VDD (1.8V to 3.6V) and then apply VDDIO (1.8V to 3.6V). This ensures that the internal voltage regulator is powered up correctly.
  • To enter sleep mode, set the MODE register to 0x00. The BMP180 will enter sleep mode after a minimum of 1ms. To wake up the device, set the MODE register to 0x01 or 0x02. The device will take approximately 2ms to wake up.
  • The OSS register sets the oversampling rate for pressure and temperature measurements. A higher OSS setting increases the measurement accuracy but also increases the measurement time and power consumption.
  • Use the following formula: altitude = (1 - (pressure / 1013.25)^(1/5.255)) * 44330. The result is in meters. Note that this formula assumes a standard atmosphere and may not be accurate for all environments.
  • The maximum cable length for the I2C interface is approximately 30cm (12 inches) due to the capacitive load of the bus. Longer cables may require the use of I2C bus repeaters or buffers.
