XP Power recommends a PCB layout with a large copper area for heat dissipation, and a minimum of 2oz copper thickness. A thermal via array under the module can also improve heat transfer.
To ensure reliable start-up, XP Power recommends a soft-start circuit to limit inrush current, and a sufficient input capacitance to stabilize the input voltage. A minimum input voltage of 1.5 times the nominal input voltage is also recommended.
The maximum allowable capacitance on the output of the ECM40UT31 is 47μF. Exceeding this value may affect the stability of the output voltage.
The ECM40UT31 is rated for operation up to 80°C ambient temperature. However, derating the output power is recommended for temperatures above 60°C to ensure reliable operation.
XP Power recommends using a TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diode or a voltage clamp circuit to protect the ECM40UT31 from input voltage transients and spikes.
