ESMIT-4164 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Sumida recommends a 4-layer PCB with a dedicated ground plane and thermal vias to dissipate heat. A minimum of 2 oz copper thickness is recommended for the top and bottom layers. Additionally, a thermal pad with a minimum size of 10mm x 10mm is recommended for heat dissipation.
  • To ensure EMC, Sumida recommends using a shielded enclosure, keeping the ESMIT-4164 at least 10mm away from the PCB edge, and using a common-mode choke or ferrite bead on the input lines. Additionally, a 10nF capacitor between the input lines and a 100nF capacitor between the output lines and ground are recommended.
  • The ESMIT-4164 can tolerate a maximum voltage deviation of ±10% of the nominal input voltage without affecting performance. However, it's recommended to maintain a voltage deviation of ±5% or less for optimal performance and reliability.
  • The ESMIT-4164 is rated for operation up to 85°C ambient temperature. However, derating is required for temperatures above 70°C. Consult the datasheet for derating curves and ensure proper thermal management to prevent overheating.
  • Sumida recommends checking the input voltage, output voltage, and current waveforms using an oscilloscope. Verify that the input voltage is within the specified range and that the output voltage is within the expected range. Check for any signs of overheating, such as excessive temperature or burning smells.
