F2480NBGI8 - Renesas Electronics

Description: The F2480 is a 400MHz to 3000MHz RF Analog Variable Gain Amplifier (AVGA) that can be used in receivers, transmitters and other applications. Either the amplifier or voltage variable attenuator (VVA) can be configured as the first stage in the cascade. The F2480 RF AVGA provides 12dB typical maximum cascade gain (no attenuation) with 4.3dB noise figure (amplifier as first stage) and 36dB gain adjustment designed to operate with a single +5V supply.  Nominally, the Zero-Distortion™ amplifier offers +41.5dBm

F2480NBGI8 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Renesas provides a recommended PCB layout guide in their application note (APN) documents, which includes guidelines for thermal vias, copper pours, and component placement to ensure optimal thermal performance.
  • The F2480NBGI8 has a built-in overcurrent protection feature, but it's not enabled by default. To implement overcurrent protection, you need to set the OCP (OverCurrent Protection) pin high and configure the OCP threshold using the I2C interface.
  • Although the datasheet specifies a maximum operating voltage of 5.5V, the VCC pin can tolerate up to 6.5V during power-up, but it's essential to ensure that the voltage does not exceed 5.5V during normal operation.
  • Renesas provides a troubleshooting guide in their application note documents, which includes steps to check the power supply, clock signals, and I2C communication. Additionally, using a logic analyzer or oscilloscope can help identify issues with the device.
  • While the F2480NBGI8 is rated for operation up to 105°C, it's essential to consider the thermal design and ensure that the device is properly cooled. Renesas provides thermal design guidelines and recommends using a heat sink or thermal pad to maintain a safe operating temperature.
