Altech recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and thermal vias under the device to dissipate heat. A minimum of 1 oz copper thickness is recommended. Ensure good airflow around the device and consider adding a heat sink if high power dissipation is expected.
Use a secure mounting method, such as screwing or adhesive, to prevent the device from shifting during vibration. Add a conformal coating to protect the device from moisture and contaminants. Consider adding a vibration-dampening material, like a silicone gel, around the device.
Handle the device by the body, avoiding direct contact with the pins. Use an ESD wrist strap or mat, and ensure the workspace is ESD-protected. Store the device in an anti-static bag or wrap it in anti-static material when not in use.
The device is rated for operation up to 85°C. For temperatures above 85°C, derate the power handling according to the datasheet's thermal derating curve. Ensure good airflow and consider adding a heat sink or thermal interface material to maintain a safe junction temperature.
Use a soldering iron with a temperature range of 220°C to 250°C. Apply a small amount of solder paste or flux to the pins. Avoid excessive heat, and limit the soldering time to 3-5 seconds per pin. For rework, use a hot air rework station with a temperature range of 180°C to 220°C.
