MCP3208-CI/P Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • The maximum sampling rate of the MCP3208 is 100,000 samples per second (100 kSPS) for 12-bit mode and 50,000 samples per second (50 kSPS) for 13-bit mode.
  • The MCP3208 can be configured for differential or pseudo-differential mode by setting the corresponding bits in the Configuration Register (CR). For differential mode, set bit 7 (DIFF) to 1, and for pseudo-differential mode, set bit 7 (DIFF) to 0 and bit 6 (PDIFF) to 1.
  • The VREF pin on the MCP3208 is used to provide an external reference voltage for the analog-to-digital conversion. It can be connected to an external voltage reference or to the internal 2.048V reference voltage (VREF_INT) by setting the corresponding bit in the Configuration Register (CR).
  • The MCP3208 outputs 12-bit or 13-bit data, depending on the mode, in a 16-bit word format. The data is output in a right-justified format, with the most significant bit (MSB) first. The data can be read through the SPI interface.
  • The power consumption of the MCP3208 depends on the operating mode and clock frequency. In normal operation, the typical current consumption is around 1.5 mA at 5V supply voltage and 1 MHz clock frequency. In shutdown mode, the typical current consumption is around 1 μA.
