MDW1016 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Minmax recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and thermal vias under the device to dissipate heat. A minimum of 1 oz copper thickness is recommended. Additionally, a thermal pad on the bottom of the device should be connected to a heat sink or a thermal interface material.
  • To ensure stability, follow the recommended component values and PCB layout in the datasheet. Additionally, add a 10nF to 22nF ceramic capacitor in parallel with the output capacitor to reduce noise and prevent oscillations. Also, ensure the input capacitor is placed close to the device's input pins.
  • The maximum allowed voltage on the EN pin is 6V. To protect it from overvoltage, use a voltage divider or a zener diode to limit the voltage to 5V or less. Additionally, add a 1kΩ to 10kΩ resistor in series with the EN pin to limit the current.
  • The output voltage ripple can be calculated using the formula: ΔVout = (Iout * ESL) / (Cout * fsw), where ESL is the equivalent series inductance of the output capacitor. Minmax recommends using low-ESR ceramic or polymer capacitors with a minimum capacitance of 10μF and a voltage rating of 2x the output voltage.
