Bivar recommends a PCB layout with a large copper area (e.g., 1 sq. in.) connected to the thermal tab (pin 3) to ensure efficient heat dissipation. A thermal via or a thermal pad can also be used to improve heat transfer.
To ensure reliable soldering, Bivar recommends using a soldering iron with a temperature range of 250°C to 260°C, and a solder with a melting point of 180°C to 190°C. Apply a small amount of solder to the component leads and PCB pads, and avoid excessive soldering time.
The maximum allowable voltage drop across the PLP5-125 is 2.5V. Exceeding this voltage drop may lead to reduced performance, increased power consumption, or even damage to the device.
While the PLP5-125 is a reliable device, it is not designed for high-reliability or high-temperature applications. For such applications, Bivar recommends using their high-reliability or high-temperature-rated products, such as the PLP5-125HR or PLP5-125HT.
To prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage, handle the PLP5-125 with ESD-protective equipment, such as wrist straps, mats, or bags. Ensure that the workspace and personnel are grounded, and avoid touching the component leads or pins.
