RECOM recommends a PCB layout with a solid ground plane, minimal track lengths, and a thermal pad connected to a heat sink or a large copper area to dissipate heat. A thermal interface material (TIM) can be used to improve heat transfer.
To ensure reliability, follow the recommended operating conditions, derate the output power according to the ambient temperature, and use a suitable input filter to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI). Regularly inspect the converter for signs of wear or damage.
Exceeding the maximum input voltage or current ratings can cause permanent damage to the converter, including overheating, electrical overstress, or even failure. Ensure that the input voltage and current are within the specified limits to prevent damage.
While the converter is designed to withstand some vibration and shock, it's essential to ensure that the PCB is securely fastened and the converter is properly soldered to the board. Additional mechanical support or potting may be necessary for extreme environments.
To troubleshoot issues, check the input voltage, output load, and ambient temperature. Verify that the converter is properly soldered and the PCB layout is correct. Use a thermal camera or thermometer to identify hotspots. Consult the datasheet and RECOM's application notes for guidance.
