RECOM recommends a PCB layout with a large copper area for heat dissipation, and a thermal via structure to reduce thermal resistance. A minimum of 2oz copper thickness is recommended. Additionally, a thermal interface material (TIM) with a thermal conductivity of at least 1 W/mK should be used between the module and the heat sink.
To ensure reliability and longevity, operate the module within the recommended temperature range (up to 85°C). Implement adequate cooling, such as a heat sink or fan, to maintain a safe operating temperature. Also, follow proper storage and handling procedures to prevent damage from moisture, mechanical stress, or electrical overstress.
RECOM recommends using low-ESR capacitors with a minimum capacitance of 10uF for the input and output. The capacitors should be rated for the maximum operating voltage and have a temperature rating of at least 105°C. X7R or X5R dielectric capacitors are suitable for this application.
To protect the module from input voltage transients and surges, use a TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diode or a varistor in parallel with the input capacitors. This will help clamp the voltage and prevent damage to the module. Additionally, consider using a fuse or a current limiter to prevent overcurrent conditions.
The R3M-123.3S/SMD module will shut down during input voltage brownout or dropout conditions. When the input voltage falls below the undervoltage lockout (UVLO) threshold, the module will turn off to prevent damage. Once the input voltage recovers, the module will automatically restart.
