RNM-3.33.3S Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • RECOM recommends a PCB layout with a large copper area for heat dissipation, and a thermal via under the module to improve heat transfer. A minimum of 2oz copper thickness is recommended. Additionally, a thermal interface material (TIM) with a thermal conductivity of at least 1W/mK should be used between the module and the heat sink.
  • To ensure reliability and longevity, operate the module within the recommended temperature range (up to 80°C). Implement proper thermal management, such as heat sinks and thermal interfaces, to keep the module's temperature below 80°C. Also, follow RECOM's recommended derating guidelines for high-temperature applications.
  • RECOM recommends using low-ESR capacitors with a minimum capacitance of 10uF for the input and output. The capacitors should be rated for the maximum input voltage and have a temperature rating of at least 105°C. X7R or X5R dielectric capacitors are suitable for this application.
  • To protect the module from input voltage transients and surges, RECOM recommends using a TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diode or a varistor at the input. The TVS diode should be rated for the maximum input voltage and have a response time of less than 1ns. A fuse or a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) thermistor can also be used to protect the module from overcurrent conditions.
  • The RNM-3.33.3S module will shut down during input voltage brownout or dropout conditions. When the input voltage falls below the undervoltage lockout (UVLO) threshold, the module will turn off to protect itself from damage. Once the input voltage recovers, the module will automatically restart.
