STMicroelectronics provides a recommended PCB layout in the application note AN4305, which includes guidelines for thermal pad connection, copper pouring, and via placement to ensure optimal thermal performance.
The input capacitor selection depends on the input voltage, ripple current, and ESR requirements. A general guideline is to choose a capacitor with a voltage rating of at least 1.5 times the maximum input voltage, and an ESR of less than 1 ohm. STMicroelectronics recommends using a ceramic capacitor with an X7R or X5R dielectric.
The maximum allowed voltage on the enable pin (EN) is 6V, as specified in the datasheet. Exceeding this voltage may damage the device.
To ensure proper power-up and power-down, follow the recommended power-up sequence: 1) Apply input voltage (VIN), 2) Apply enable signal (EN), and 3) Wait for the output voltage to stabilize. During power-down, reverse the sequence: 1) Remove enable signal (EN), 2) Wait for the output voltage to decay, and 3) Remove input voltage (VIN).
