TDA7850A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • STMicroelectronics recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and to keep the analog and digital grounds separate. Additionally, it's recommended to use a common mode filter and a shielded inductor to reduce EMI.
  • Use a combination of ceramic and electrolytic capacitors for power supply decoupling. Place a 100nF ceramic capacitor close to the IC, and a 10uF electrolytic capacitor further away. Ensure the capacitors are connected to a solid ground plane.
  • Use a heat sink with a thermal resistance of less than 10°C/W. Apply a thermal interface material (TIM) between the IC and the heat sink. Ensure good airflow around the heat sink to maintain a junction temperature below 150°C.
  • Check the audio signal path for any signs of distortion or clipping. Verify the correct configuration of the I2S interface and the audio codec. Use an oscilloscope to measure the audio signal and check for any signs of noise or interference.
  • Implement overcurrent protection using a dedicated IC or a fuse. Monitor the TDA7850A's temperature and shutdown the device if it exceeds 150°C. Use a watchdog timer to detect and reset the device in case of a fault.
