The input capacitor value depends on the input voltage, output voltage, and desired output ripple. A general guideline is to use a capacitor with a value between 10uF to 22uF, with a voltage rating of at least 1.5 times the maximum input voltage. Refer to the datasheet (Section 8.2.2) for more information.
The EN (Enable) pin is used to enable or disable the device. When EN is high, the device is enabled, and when EN is low, the device is disabled. This pin can be used to implement power sequencing, shutdown, or low-power modes. Connect EN to a logic-level signal or a voltage source (e.g., VCC) to enable the device.
The TPS40195RGYT has a thermal pad on the bottom of the package, which should be connected to a heat sink or a thermal plane on the PCB. Ensure good thermal conductivity by using a thermal interface material (TIM) and a heat sink with a sufficient thermal rating. Refer to the datasheet (Section 9.2) for thermal design considerations.
The internal soft-start feature helps reduce inrush current during startup. However, it may not be sufficient for all applications, especially those with high-capacitance output filters. In such cases, an external soft-start circuit may be necessary to ensure a controlled startup sequence.
