TI provides a recommended PCB layout in the datasheet (Figure 23) and in the TPS65163RGZR Evaluation Module documentation. It's essential to follow these guidelines to minimize noise, ensure proper thermal dissipation, and optimize performance.
The output capacitor selection depends on the output voltage, output current, and desired ripple voltage. TI recommends using a low-ESR capacitor with a minimum capacitance of 10uF. A higher capacitance can be used for improved ripple rejection and transient response.
Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 5.5V, it's recommended to limit the input voltage to 5V to ensure reliable operation and prevent damage to the internal regulator.
To ensure proper power-up and power-down, TI recommends using a soft-start circuit and a power-good signal. The soft-start circuit helps to reduce inrush current, while the power-good signal indicates when the output voltage is within regulation.
The thermal derating is specified in the datasheet (Figure 26). To calculate the thermal derating, use the formula: P_D = (T_J - T_A) / R_θJA, where P_D is the derated power, T_J is the junction temperature, T_A is the ambient temperature, and R_θJA is the thermal resistance.
