UCC3804PW Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • TI recommends a compact layout with short traces, and placing the IC close to the power stage. Decoupling capacitors should be placed close to the IC, and the layout should be symmetrical to reduce noise. A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane is also recommended.
  • The VREF pin capacitor value depends on the desired soft-start time and the output voltage. A larger capacitor value will result in a slower soft-start, while a smaller value will result in a faster soft-start. TI recommends a value between 10nF to 100nF.
  • The maximum allowed voltage on the VCC pin is 15V, but TI recommends operating the IC with a VCC voltage between 8V to 13.2V for optimal performance and reliability.
  • The UCC3804PW has a built-in OVP feature that can be enabled by connecting a resistor divider network from the output voltage to the OVP pin. The OVP threshold can be set by selecting the appropriate resistor values.
