USD066A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • CTS Corporation recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and a separate power plane for the oscillator circuit. Additionally, keep the oscillator circuit away from noisy digital signals and ensure a low-impedance path for the crystal oscillator.
  • To ensure reliable oscillator startup, ensure the power supply is stable and within the recommended range, and the crystal oscillator circuit is properly decoupled with a 10nF capacitor. Also, avoid applying a clock signal to the XTAL1 pin during power-up.
  • The USD066A can tolerate a crystal frequency deviation of up to ±100 ppm. However, it's recommended to use a crystal with a frequency deviation of ±50 ppm or less for optimal performance.
  • While the USD066A is optimized for a 32.768 kHz crystal frequency, it can be used with other frequencies between 10 kHz and 100 kHz. However, this may require adjustments to the internal oscillator circuit and may affect the device's performance and accuracy.
  • The POR circuitry is designed to reset the device during power-up. To ensure proper operation, ensure the power supply ramps up slowly (typically 1-2 ms) and avoid applying a clock signal to the XTAL1 pin during power-up.
