Vicor recommends a thermal pad on the bottom of the module, connected to a large copper area on the PCB to dissipate heat. A minimum of 2 oz copper thickness is recommended, and the thermal pad should be connected to a heat sink or a metal core PCB for optimal thermal performance.
To ensure reliable start-up, Vicor recommends a soft-start circuit to limit the inrush current. A minimum of 10uF capacitance on the input and output rails is also recommended to filter out noise and ensure stable operation.
The maximum allowed input voltage ripple is 10% of the nominal input voltage. Exceeding this limit may affect the module's performance and reliability.
The VI-JW0-CY is rated for operation up to 100°C ambient temperature. However, derating is required above 80°C to ensure reliable operation. Consult the datasheet for derating curves and guidelines.
The VI-JW0-CY has a built-in temperature monitoring pin (VTM) that can be connected to a microcontroller or a temperature monitoring IC. The VTM pin outputs a voltage proportional to the module's temperature, allowing for real-time temperature monitoring.
