HI7190IBZ - Renesas Electronics

Description: The Intersil HI7190 is a monolithic instrumentation, sigma delta A/D converter which operates from ±5V supplies. Both the signal and reference inputs are fully differential for maximum flexibility and performance. An internal Programmable Gain Instrumentation Amplifier (PGIA) provides input gains from 1 to 128 eliminating the need for external pre-amplifiers. The on-demand converter autocalibrate function is capable of removing offset and gain errors existing in external and internal circuitry. The on-board

HI7190IBZ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate analog ground plane is recommended. Keep analog and digital signals separate, and use a common ground point for analog and digital grounds. Use a ferrite bead or a 10uF capacitor to filter the power supply.
  • Calibrate the HI7190IBZ by applying a known temperature to the thermistor input and adjusting the offset and gain registers accordingly. Use a thermocouple or a precision temperature source for calibration. Refer to the datasheet for calibration procedures.
  • The maximum cable length depends on the thermistor type and cable resistance. As a general rule, keep the cable length below 10 meters. To compensate for cable resistance, use a thermistor with a built-in resistor or add an external resistor in series with the thermistor to match the cable resistance.
  • Implement error detection and correction mechanisms in your firmware. Use the HI7190IBZ's built-in error detection features, such as the fault detection pin and the error flag in the status register. Implement retry mechanisms for communication errors and thermistor faults.
  • Power up the HI7190IBZ in the following sequence: VCC, AVCC, and then the digital supply. Power down in the reverse sequence. Ensure that the power supplies are stable and within the recommended voltage range before applying them to the HI7190IBZ.
