  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the analog and digital grounds separate and connect them at a single point. Use a 10uF capacitor between VCC and GND, and a 100nF capacitor between AVCC and AGND.
  • Use a twisted pair cable with a characteristic impedance of 120 ohms, and terminate the bus with a 120 ohm resistor at each end. Ensure that the transmitter and receiver are properly configured, and use a common mode choke to reduce electromagnetic interference.
  • The maximum cable length depends on the data rate and the type of cable used. As a general guideline, the ISL32600EFUZ-T7A can support cable lengths up to 4000 feet (1219 meters) at a data rate of 115.2 kbps, and up to 1000 feet (305 meters) at a data rate of 921.6 kbps.
  • Use an ESD protection device such as a TVS diode or a transient voltage suppressor at the input of the RS-485 bus. Ensure that the PCB is designed with ESD protection in mind, and handle the device by the body or use an anti-static wrist strap when handling the device.
  • Power up the device in the following sequence: VCC, AVCC, and then enable the transmitter and receiver. Ensure that the power supply is stable and within the recommended operating range before enabling the device.
