The sense resistor (Rs) value depends on the motor current, desired current sense accuracy, and the voltage across the sense resistor. TI provides a calculation for Rs in the datasheet (equation 14). A general rule of thumb is to choose an Rs value that results in a voltage drop of 50-100 mV at the maximum motor current.
The VREG pin is an internal voltage regulator output that can be used to power external circuitry. It's recommended to use a capacitor (e.g., 1 μF) to filter the output voltage. The VREG pin can be used to power low-current devices, such as sensors or microcontrollers, but it's not suitable for high-current applications.
