  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the analog and digital grounds separate and connect them at a single point. Use short, direct traces for the RS-485 bus and keep them away from noise sources.
  • Use a common-mode choke or ferrite bead on the RS-485 bus to filter out high-frequency noise. Add a 100nF capacitor between the VCC and GND pins to decouple the power supply. Use shielded cables and keep the RS-485 bus away from power cables and other noise sources.
  • The maximum cable length depends on the data rate and cable characteristics. As a general guideline, the ISL3150EIUZ can support cable lengths up to 4000 feet (1219 meters) at 115.2 kbps, and up to 1000 feet (305 meters) at 921.6 kbps.
  • The ISL3150EIUZ is a half-duplex transceiver by default. To configure it for full-duplex operation, connect the DE (Driver Enable) pin to VCC and the RE (Receiver Enable) pin to GND. For half-duplex operation, connect DE to the transmit enable signal and RE to the receive enable signal.
  • A 120Ω termination resistor is recommended at each end of the RS-485 bus to prevent signal reflections and ensure reliable data transmission.
