Richtek provides a recommended PCB layout in their application note AND9231, which includes guidelines for thermal vias, copper pours, and component placement to minimize thermal resistance and ensure reliable operation.
The output capacitor selection depends on the output voltage, output current, and desired ripple voltage. Richtek recommends using a low-ESR capacitor with a minimum capacitance of 10uF and a voltage rating of at least 1.5 times the output voltage. A X5R or X7R dielectric capacitor is recommended for its low temperature coefficient and high reliability.
Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 18V, Richtek recommends limiting the input voltage to 15V to ensure reliable operation and prevent damage to the internal components.
The RT9728BLGQW has a built-in overcurrent protection feature that can be enabled by connecting a resistor between the OCP pin and the GND pin. The value of the resistor determines the overcurrent threshold. Richtek provides a calculation formula for the resistor value in their datasheet.
