SLIMDIP-L Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Mitsubishi Electric recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and thermal vias under the package to dissipate heat. A thermal pad on the bottom of the package should be connected to a heat sink or a thermal interface material.
  • Use a differential signaling scheme, keep signal traces short and matched, and use a common mode choke or ferrite bead to filter out high-frequency noise. Also, ensure a solid ground plane and decouple power supplies to reduce EMI.
  • Power up the device in the following sequence: VCC, VCCIO, and then the clock signal. Power down in the reverse sequence. Ensure a monotonic power-up and power-down ramp to prevent latch-up or damage.
  • The SLIMDIP-L has a built-in thermal shutdown feature that activates when the junction temperature exceeds 150°C. The device will automatically shut down and restart when the temperature drops below 140°C. Ensure proper thermal design and heat sinking to prevent thermal shutdown.
  • The recommended termination resistors are 50 ohms for single-ended signals and 100 ohms for differential signals. Ensure the termination resistors are placed close to the device pins to minimize signal reflections.
