Texas Instruments recommends a compact layout with the device placed close to the power source, and the input and output capacitors placed as close as possible to the device pins. A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane is also recommended to minimize noise and EMI.
To ensure stability, use a minimum output capacitance of 10uF, and ensure that the output capacitor's ESR is less than 1 ohm. Additionally, place a 10nF to 100nF capacitor between the VIN and GND pins to filter high-frequency noise.
Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 5.5V, the device can handle up to 6V for short durations (less than 1 second) without damage. However, it's recommended to operate within the specified voltage range for optimal performance and reliability.
The output voltage can be calculated using the formula: VOUT = (R1 / R2) * (VIN - VREF), where R1 and R2 are the resistors connected to the FB pin, VIN is the input voltage, and VREF is the internal reference voltage (1.2V).
The EN (enable) pin is used to turn the device on or off. When EN is high (above 1.4V), the device is enabled, and when EN is low (below 0.4V), the device is disabled. This pin can be used to implement power sequencing or to turn off the device during shutdown or low-power modes.
