USP10978 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Littelfuse recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and a separate power plane for the input and output. The input and output capacitors should be placed as close as possible to the device, and the layout should minimize inductive loops.
  • The USP10978 has a thermal pad on the bottom of the package. Ensure good thermal contact between the thermal pad and a heat sink or a metal plate on the PCB. Apply a thin layer of thermal interface material (TIM) to improve heat transfer.
  • The USP10978 is designed to handle high surge currents. It can withstand a 100A, 8/20μs surge pulse, and a 200A, 10/1000μs surge pulse. However, the actual surge current handling capability may vary depending on the specific application and PCB layout.
  • The USP10978 is rated for operation up to 150°C. However, the device's performance and reliability may degrade at high temperatures. Ensure proper cooling and derate the device's current handling capability according to the temperature derating curve provided in the datasheet.
  • Choose input and output capacitors with a high ripple current rating, low ESR, and a voltage rating that exceeds the maximum input voltage. The capacitor values should be selected based on the specific application requirements, such as filtering, decoupling, and energy storage.
