BQ4050RSMT Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the input and output capacitors close to the IC, and use short, wide traces for the power lines.
  • Use a power-on reset (POR) circuit to ensure the IC is properly powered up and configured during startup. The POR circuit should hold the EN pin low until the input voltage reaches the minimum operating voltage.
  • A 10uF to 22uF X5R or X7R ceramic capacitor is recommended for the input capacitor. The capacitor should be placed close to the VIN pin and have a low equivalent series resistance (ESR).
  • Choose an output capacitor with a low ESR and a capacitance value between 10uF to 47uF. The output capacitor should be placed close to the VOUT pin and have a voltage rating that exceeds the output voltage.
  • The BQ4050RSMT has a thermal derating of 1.5°C/W. To ensure reliable operation at high temperatures, use a heat sink or a thermal pad, and ensure good airflow around the IC. Also, reduce the output current or use a lower input voltage to reduce the power dissipation.
