OPA2889ID Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • TI recommends a compact, symmetrical layout with the op-amp placed close to the feedback resistors and capacitors. Keep the input and output traces short and away from noise sources. Use a solid ground plane and decouple the power supplies with 0.1uF and 10uF capacitors.
  • Choose gain resistors based on the desired gain and bandwidth. Higher gain resistors reduce bandwidth, while lower gain resistors increase bandwidth. Use the OPA2889ID's gain-bandwidth product (GBP) to determine the maximum gain for a given bandwidth. Consult the datasheet's gain vs. frequency plots and equations to determine the optimal gain resistors for your application.
  • The OPA2889ID can drive up to 1nF of capacitive load. To stabilize the op-amp with capacitive loads, add a series resistor (Rs) between the output and the capacitive load. The value of Rs depends on the load capacitance and the desired stability margin. Consult the datasheet's capacitive load drive section for more information.
  • To reduce noise and distortion, use a low-noise power supply, decouple the power supplies, and use a low-ESR output capacitor. Keep the input and output traces short and away from noise sources. Use a shielded enclosure and consider adding a noise filter or a common-mode choke to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI).
  • The OPA2889ID's input stage can tolerate input common-mode voltages up to 1.2V beyond the power supply rails. However, exceeding the power supply rails can cause damage. To protect the op-amp, use input clamping diodes or a voltage limiter circuit to prevent overvoltage. Consult the datasheet's input common-mode voltage section for more information.
